Rexu’s portrait is quite special for us. It was the first portrait we did using the motorhome as a mobile studio in 2018. In this case, we went to visit him at his farmhouse in Altzo.
Rexu is quite a famous man in the area, we didn’t know exactly why. We went to portray him as the 70-year-old sheep herder that he is, who continued to work day after day in the farmhouse and who had worked most of his life in the Michelin factory in Lasarte; but we soon discovered that his fame came from what an excellent “dantzari” (dancer) he is. He told us that from a very young age he was hired at popular festivals to dance and encourage people to take part, he was the one who broke the ice and got everyone going.
This time he couldn’t come to take his portrait but it was a shame not to include his portrait in the Archive.
We will always remember the afternoon we spent in his farmhouse knowing a little about him, his family and his sheep.
