To define Pedro in a few words, we would say: fighter of difficult causes, but not lost.
Pedro was the main reason for our visit to Villegas, after discovering an article about us in El País.
It was in 2003, after reading another article about the Church of Santiago Apóstol in Villamorón, a hamlet belonging to Villegas, that he fell in love with it, despite the practically ruinous state it was in.
Today, he is the visible head of the Friends of Villamorón Association, which since 2003 began to fight for the church to remain standing, and where today they are immersed in internal restorations, after consolidating the building and restoring the roof. All this incredible work has been made possible thanks to the efforts of the Association, who fight to raise funds from public bodies, small sponsors and crowdfunding campaigns.
It is truly incredible the work of communication, dissemination and management that Pedro and the members of the Association are doing for this church, with which he, in particular, had no connection whatsoever until his unexpected discovery.
Pedro is investing thousands of hours in keeping up a heritage whose fate is unclear. He travels from Burgos without hesitation, key in hand to open and explain all the work that is being carried out.
It is really impressive and surprising to see such an architectural whim in a place like Villamorón, practically uninhabited nowadays.
We hope and wish that, as its restoration progresses, this fortunate church will find a new function suited to the new times and, please, don’t stop investigating it to fall in love with it and become a patron.
Peter is a very sane madman, who is inspiring to us.
