Born in Caracas (Venezuela) in 1965, Gurutxe is the daughter of Basque migrants who, in search of a future, crossed to the other side of the Atlantic. Her parents, from a family of farmhouses in Altzo and Gabiria, mean that her Basque blood is very present in her, which contrasts completely with her Latin background. She told us that she is still in the process of adapting to the village, despite having been back to her origins for more than two years on her return to Altzo.
Gurutxe’s story is of particular interest to us because of this “return home”, the return to “family origins” when one’s situation is so complex.
Such a big change in life means living with cultural differences and starting over in search of stability; while, on the way, he rediscovers that his Caribbean has little or nothing to do with the Basque mountains.
