We had a good time chatting before taking her portrait. She, calm and sitting in her walker from which she never leaves. She has had several incidents in her legs and hip, which have made her depend on the device she handles so well. She told us that she was born, lives and will die in the village. Almost the only time she has left town has been for major reasons, such as when she had to have hip surgery. Three months in the hospital, she told us, the time she spent the most time out of town.
With her more than 90 years, she told us with grace, her feats sewing with the sewing machine, her eyes lit up when talking about it. She has made all her clothes herself, almost since she can remember, like the blouse she is wearing in the photo. She told us about the different sewing machines she has had, how they came to her house and what she has been able to do with them. She says that, although her hands are not the same, she continues to sew and mend clothes for herself or for other people. She always asks her granddaughter, when she comes to town, to bring her things to mend. In fact, for her stay in the hospital, she asked them to bring her sewing machine in view of the long days of rest that awaited her. Laughing, she told us that the swaying of the pedals of the sewing machine she uses the most is good for exercising her legs.
According to her, the secret to being the eldest in town is to have a good mood and be cheerful, it’s as simple as that.
Undoubtedly a woman to listen to and learn a lot from.
